Companions Guide

Companions are unique tools of the Tenno. Each can be equipped from the Arsenal, just like a Weapon or Warframe, but each Companion functions independently in combat. This allows you to bring a little extra automatic firepower and utility to every Mission. Not to mention many of them are just adorable!

Not all Companions are the same, however. There are several different types that are each acquired in different ways. This quick guide should help provide you with some details on how to acquire each!

Sentinels

These floating drones are the simplest form of Companion to acquire. You can craft them directly from the Foundry in your own Orbiter! Just purchase the appropriate blueprint from the “Companions” section of the in-game Market and, assuming you have the proper resources, you can begin right away. Meanwhile, Prime Sentinel parts and blueprints can be acquired from Void Relics like most other Prime equipment.

Kubrows

Canine Kubrows are hatched rather than constructed. You can find their eggs by destroying wild Kubrow dens located in the forest zones of Earth. While the eggs can be rare, and each egg comes with a randomly selected breed of Kubrow, you only need one to permanently unlock your first loyal warhound!

Kubrows also require an Incubator segment to be installed aboard your Orbiter. You will earn one of these devices during the quest “Howl of the Kubrow,” which unlocks in your Quests menu after opening the Venus to Mercury Junction on your Star Chart.

You also need at least one Incubator Power Core each time you hatch a new Kubrow. These can be crafted using a blueprint also purchased in the Market. All Tenno also receive one free Incubator Power Core as a reward for unlocking the Earth to Mars Junction. Both Kubrow Eggs and Incubator Power Cores can be purchased in the Market for Platinum as well.

Kavats

Feline Kavats also require both an Incubator and at least one Incubator Power Core to breed. Instead of an egg, however, these Companions require Kavat Genetic Codes to bring to life aboard your Orbiter.

You can harvest these codes by scanning Feral Kavats with Codex Scanners purchased from the Market or Synthesis Scanners purchased from Cephalon Simaris on public Relays. You can commonly find Feral Kavats Orokin Derelict Missions on Deimos, such as Horend, Phlegyas and Formido.
You also need the Kavat Incubator Upgrade Segment to ready your Orbiter for Kavat breeding. This can either be crafted using a blueprint from your Clan Dojo's Tenno Lab research or as a drop from Hyekka Masters: an enemy type that appears in a wide variety of Grineer Missions. Kavat Genetic Codes and the Kavat Incubator Upgrade Segment can also be purchased from the Market for Platinum.

Helminth Chargers

If a fungal friend is more your speed, there are several different options for Infested Companions throughout Warframe. One of these is the Helminth Charger, which can be incubated much like a Kubrow. Though there are some additional requirements.

You must own a Warframe fully infected by a Helminth Cyst. You may even have one of these already and not know it! If you haven’t checked your Warframes’ necks in a while, look for a purple, pulsing growth growing just under their jaw. This is a Helminth Cyst — which is automatically acquired by interacting with other infected players or by equipping Nidus and allowing him to be injected in the Helminth Infirmary on your Orbiter.

It takes seven real-time days for a Helminth Cyst to fully mature. Once it does, you’ll have the option to “Drain Cyst” when incubating a Kubrow on your Orbiter. This will breed a Helminth Charger instead of the usual canine.

MOAs

After completing the Quest “Vox Solaris” on Venus, you will gain access to various vendors in the colony of Fortuna. These include Legs: a shopkeeper who specializes in robotics that will help you construct your very own MOAs.

Legs sells various MOA parts in exchange for Solaris United Standing. You’ll need at least one Model type, a Core, a Gyro and a Bracket for each Companion you build. Each MOA can be totally personalized based on your choice of components, but higher ranks with Solaris United unlock more options.

Hounds

Legs can also help you assemble your own custom Hounds. These robotic allies are another Corpus creation turned to the side of the Tenno. Though you first need to find and defeat a Sister of Parvos to repurpose them as your Companions.

Hounds also come in multiple component types: a Model, Core, Bracket and Stabilizer. Defeating a Sister of Parvos will not only provide you with one fully-built Hound assembled from random components, but also a random component blueprint so that you can eventually create your own entirely personalized Hound.

Predasites & Vulpaphyla

There’s more than one way to befriend an Infested. Besides breeding Helminth Chargers, you can also grow your own Predasite or Vulpaphyla with the help of Son on Deimos. Simply complete the Quest “Heart of Deimos” to gain access to his wares and Conservation requests.

Start by purchasing the Vulpaphyla Echo-Lure and/or Predasite Echo-Lure from Son inside the Necralisk on Deimos. These will help you track both Infested animal types in the Cambion Drift open world zone. They will typically be wounded by local enemies and require extraction by interacting with them.

Once you’ve collected a Vulpaphyla or Predasite, you can “revivify” it using your choice of Mutagen and Antigen (which are also purchased from Son). You can select any combination of body, Mutagen and Antigen. Though the end result, and overall look of your Companion, will be influenced by your choice. Mutagens set your Companion’s damage resistances while Antigens help determine their Mod Polarities. Note that you need to first craft each Antigen and Mutagen from your Foundry.

Speak to Son and choose “Predasite Revivification” or “Vulpaphyla Revivification” to make your final choices. Once you’re happy with your combination, he’ll deliver your brand-new Companion instantly to your Inventory!
